5 Things: Minion Pancake Hug Edition

Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week like the sweet grandfather who gave up nearly everything to see his granddaughter educated. Spoiler: Some kind strangers made sure that he, too, was well taken care of. It does the heart good to see that such a selfless man with a difficult life is shown a major kindness.

Well, it’s been a week. Hasn’t it? As I type this, I’m watching Nightline coverage of the Ukraine debacle. (They give some useful information if you’re interested.) The desire to invade anyone is foreign to me. It’s a ridiculous enterprise, frankly. Lives will be lost and homes and livelihoods destroyed. As if a pandemic hadn’t been enough of a disaster!

Today I ask you to pray for the people of Ukraine as they evacuate or fight for their families and their homes. And pray for the leadership of Russia to see reason. They could stop this at any time. If you can, the International Red Cross could also use some assistance as they respond to the conflict. The organization Samaritan’s Purse is also on the ground ready to help Ukrainians flee the country. Both a great groups when it comes to dealing with the unthinkable.

In spite of all this, it is Friday. Hope that means that you can sit back with a cup of tea to check out another “5 Things.” Enjoy!

1) As a big fan of the Despicable Me series, it’s neat to hear that there will be a Minions 2 released in July. Hopefully, it includes a healthy dose of Julie Andrews as Gru’s mom!

2) I love the idea of 3D illustration but working with resin just isn’t in my wheelhouse. (It would be a DISASTER, to say the least.) Fortunately, YouTube personality/artist Jazza has accomplished the same thing using layers of plexiglass. Can’t wait to give this a try!

3) A new species of giant sea scorpion has been discovered in my home state. Thankfully, it’s just a fossil (whew!). Could you imagine seeing one of those guys crawling up on a beach? Yikes!

4) Scientists have determined that hugs, even hugging yourself, are very beneficial. Not that you didn’t know that already. Although hugging oneself is a new concept to me. What about you? I will say that I’ve found incredible benefits in sleeping with a weighted blanket. Maybe that’s a similar effect.

5) Apparently, baking pancakes can make them fluffier. Given that I just had some incredible pancakes at Dave’s Valley Grill (highly recommended if you venture to Albuquerque), it might be a while before I give this a shot. But I’m curious nonetheless. Have you ever baked your pancakes? Or cooked them some other way?

Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and remember to pray for Ukraine!
