5 Things: Velcro Books are Old Enough Edition

Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week like the folks who just learned that a velcro leg wrap could improve their quality of life starting next year! Isn’t technology grand? This current era of science and research is so interesting sometimes.

Well, even if the only interesting technology that you’ve encountered this week was an evil printer (most printers are inherently evil, by the way), it’s Friday, friends! Even better, it’s Labor Day Weekend here in the US of A. And that means it’s time to indulge in the 15-minute break in favor of another “5 Things.” Enjoy!

The folks at the 99% Invisible podcast did what they do best this week when they took a look at the Japanese TV show Old Enough! (now available on Netflix in the US). The concept likely seems adorable but impractical to many international viewers. However, it turns out that Japanese culture and even the designs of cities come together in the most interesting ways to make children safer as well as more independent. Great story! Although, if you’re dorky like me, you may appreciate SNL’s take on the show even more.

Surviving Monkees band member Micky Dolenz has filed a lawsuit against the FBI in order to obtain files from their investigation of the band. Apparently, the band was accused of communicating subliminal messages of a political nature at their live concerts. I had a feeling that the crazy lyrics to “Daydream Believer” had to be part political manifesto! (And I’m totally kidding.)

BookRiot has published its own recommendations on how to find “good” self-published books. And, a little shameless self-promotion: Some people think that my book (available on Amazon) is pretty good with almost a solid 5-star rating!

What if Better Call Saul was made by Pixar?

Last but not least: Happy Pumpkin Spice Season! (You’re welcome, Jess.)

Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and please continue to pray for Ukraine!
