Detective Sam Cross is back!

The Murder Notebooks (out August 11, 2026) is the third installment in the career of Detective Sam Cross who has turned over a new leaf. He and his family have moved houses and Sam has stepped back from detective work to take a job at the police academy.
It’s in this new environment that Sam unwittingly stumbles upon his next case off the books! A series of diaries in the attic, written in Sam’s handwriting, implicate him in 11 violent murders.
And that is literally all that I will tell you, dear reader, about the plot of this book! I’ve gone over and over how to summarize Sam’s latest mystery without giving away too much information and this is it.
What I can tell you is that author Stephen Zimmerman has really come into his own on this third volume. While I’ve enjoyed all three stories for their novelty among the detective story market and the strong character relationships, The Murder Notebooks struck me as a particularly compelling mystery and a fast-paced read.
