Happy Friday and Happy October! Hope you all had a great week like those of us who have been enjoying some real fall weather. Farewell, 100-degree temperatures!
October, as you may know, is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
My family, like many others, has not been immune to this blight. Two individuals very near and dear to me were fortunate to escape abusive relationships. Unfortunately, the longterm effects are not so easily left behind. There are years of healing and “damage control” as the actions and words of abusers tend to carry on long after they are physically out of the picture.
As it happens, everyday is Domestic Violence Awareness Day for me. This is why the issue is something that I want to make every man, woman, and child aware of. Let’s end this abuse stuff!
Let’s not have to stay awake at night praying for our sisters despite not knowing where they are or if they are safe. Let’s not let our brothers suffer in silence because admitting that a “girl” hit them isn’t manly.
Let’s not be so stupidly gullible that we take the abuser’s side because he or she is charming and persuasive.
Let this end TODAY.
So, yes, there’s only “1 Thing” to share this October 1st. Please share the resources below with your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors… everyone. Thank you!
1) Domestic abuse is pervasive in our society. It does not discriminate between genders or economic statuses. Know the signs of domestic abuse in your (or your loved ones’) relationship and understand why victims stay. Then, please, get help: 800.799.7233.
Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Be safe and be good to one another.
